Tellus Services - Underground Utility Contractor

Despite being an essential element of our lives, underground utilities pose a threat to our lives if improperly maintained or installed. Pipes collapsing, bursting, or causing contamination are only a few of the dangers posed by improperly maintained or installed subsurface utilities. A reliable contractor installs and maintains underground utilities to prevent these issues from occurring, but there are signs and outcomes of improperly managed utilities.

Water Supply Line Dangers

If you’ve ever seen the fallout from a ruptured water line, the devastation pains a bleak picture. Depending on the location, a ruptured line can lead to flooding on location and immediate area. If located on a business, the building is immediately a hazardous zone, as any loose electricals will increase the risk of being in water. Flooding also leads to property damage, which is a costly expense that can take months or years to address, depending on the severity. If near any water sources, this can cause water contamination as well, which is an equally-costly fix if the origin is from a business.

The signs of your water supply lines being in danger are sometimes easily spotted, like puddles or wet areas on your property or the sound of running water even when the taps aren’t open. Others are slightly harder to spot or pin down, like increases in your water bill or low water pressure, as each of these could have multiple explanations. If any of these signs appear, it’s time to bring a contractor in to take a look at your water supply line and maintain, repair, or replace it accordingly.

Sewer Main Troubles

Sewer line problems can cause untold damage to your property, both financially and physically. Not only will your water bills begin to climb, but you may begin to find foundational cracks as pressure builds in the pipes. Leaks may lead to the spread of mold, which will shut down your building until it’s been resolved. At its worst, a sewer main could rupture, causing severe contamination and damage to the surrounding areas and negatively impacting your building.

The signs are easier to spot than some underground utility issues. Surprisingly, if you have either a greener lawn or one with patches of lush grass, that’s also a sign of sewer main troubles, as water is leaking into the lawn. This may not seem like a bad side effect, but it is a warning sign of worse to come. The smell of sewage should be an immediate concern, alongside expensive water bills. If there are frequent clogs or drainage issues, it may be time to have a professional come take a look at your utilities.
